3rd League Summit Travemünde 2016
A topsy-turvy world at the 3rd league summit of the season: Before Travemünde, the southern clubs shone in the north. Second division team MSC caused a curiosity

Two southern clubs and the Seglerhaus am Wannsee club sailed to the podium at the Travemünde league summit. The victory was secured by the experienced league and 49er helmsman Leopold Fricke with Christoph Müller, Moritz Fricke and Simon Tripp from the Chiemsee Yacht Club, who thus moved up to fourth place in the table. Second place went to Veit Hemmeter, Teresa Hemmeter, Martin Hostenkamp and Fabian Gielen from the Lindauer Segler-Club, who even moved up to second place in the table behind the German Touring Yacht Club, which finished sixth off Travemünde and is the league leader at the halfway stage.

"The performance of the two southern clubs here in Travemünde is not surprising," said League Manager Jocky Hellmich, "both crews have scored well several times recently and are sailing very stably at a high level. They are in top form." VSaW had successfully sent its crew with 470 ace Jan-Jasper Wagner, Yannek Wloch, Julian Bergemann and Phillip Kasüske, who has just been crowned Junior World Champion in the Finn Dinghy, into the race and also secured third place in the table with third place ahead of Travemünde.

However, two co-favourites faltered: Neither the local heroes from the host Lübecker Yacht-Club nor the two-time club champions from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein were able to score as desired on the third Bundesliga weekend of the season. Oltmann Thyen, Maximilian Gebhard, Kevin Barche and Niclas Kath sailed to 17th place among the 18 first division teams for the Lübeck team. The NRV team with Carsten Kemmling, Mitja Meyer, Miklas Meyer and David Heitzig finished the Travemünde league summit, which was robbed of a sailing day due to a persistent calm, in an unusual 16th place after eleven races. The best northern club was Seglervereinigung Itzehoe with Christian Soyka, Stefan Gründler, Moritz Burmeister and Leon Stolp in seventh place. The Itzehoe team gave away a much better placing after three opening wins in a row with two last places at the end.

The team from the Württemberg Yacht Club was very unlucky. Helmsman Marvin Frisch had tried to sit in a sunbed that was not fully unfolded and broke a finger in the process. Previously in a promising position, the quintet slipped back to 15th place after the accident with painful consequences and will have to attack from tenth place in the table on the next league weekend.

Curiosity in the Bundesliga 2

The Mühlenberger Segel-Club would have won the second division matches if the team had not made a serious blunder before the first starting signal. The team from the club on the Elbe had not registered properly and was penalised with a harsh three minus points in accordance with the regulations. As a result, the MSC account was already nine points down after the first race, before the talented young crew provided some relief with seven race wins. In the end, the MSC crew with helmsman Magnus Simon, Till Krüger, Simon Zweigler and Finn Olsen sailed to second place, two points behind the winners from Seglervereinigung 1903 Berlin. Despite the good position, the three minus points really hurt. Erik Witzmann, Wolfram Kramer, Daniel Mauter and Andreas Wiener scored for the Berlin team. Third place ahead of Travemünde was secured by the crew of the sailing club "Wappen von Bremen".

Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
